Manifest Your Desires / Achieve Your Goals - Using the Vision Board (aka Treasure Map) Technique

What is a Vision Board?  What is it used for?

Your own personal Vision Board is a visual expression of anything you want to have in your life.  Vision Boards are both fun and useful, and can be very cheap and easy to make.  Creating your own Vision Board is like creating a unique piece of art that expresses who you are, what you like, what you want, and what makes you happy just to think about.  It could be a collage of magazine images or personal photographs, a drawing or painting of the life you imagine having, a combination of cut-outs/print-outs and your own sketches, or anything else along these lines.  You could have a board with a cut-out of your dream house, a printout of your dream car, a drawing of you happily at your dream job, a mock-up of a check representing your monthly income, etc.  You should enjoy both the process of making your Vision Board as well as looking at the finished product and daydreaming on the contents of it (of course it may never technically be a "finished" product since you can make it easy to add and subtract to as you choose).  There are many concepts involved in using a Vision Board to manifest your desires or achieve your goals.

What you think about expands, or what you think about you bring about.  Therefore, think about what you want, not what you have and not what you don't want - whatever you think about most you will get more of.  Having a visual reminder such as a Vision Board helps you to focus on what you want and therefore helps you to achieve it.  Likewise, you automatically get more of the emotions you experience most, so surround yourself with things that give you positive emotions, and you will automatically feel more positive emotions.  (Remember that happiness as well as all emotions are a choice.)  Mental visualization (see Visualization blog) is another powerful way to achieve your goals or manifest your desires and the Vision Board gives you a clear image to start with when you close your eyes to imagine already having achieved your goals.  Furthermore, scientific research shows that the human brain cannot tell the difference between thought and reality, or more accurately, what we think is real and what is actually real.  If you think/daydream/visualize about something you want until you actually feel as though it is real, eventually reality will transform itself to fit with your real-feeling thoughts.

Once you've created your Vision Board, it is best to keep it in a somewhat private, safe place where you feel comfortable having it displayed and where you won't feel pressure to explain or defend anything on it to curious or skeptical observers (unless you believe it would be beneficial to your goals to show it to others and confidently tell them your dreams and plans).  You should do what is best for you - whatever is most effective for you personally.

What You Will Need to Make Your Vision Board:

-Any designated space to place images of the things you want.  This can be as simple as poster-board paper or cardboard or as fancy as a cork-board.
-Anything to adhere your images to your board, such as tape, staples, or pushpins.
-Your images (photographs, printouts, cutouts, or your own sketches/drawings/symbols). *Tip: your own sketch/drawing/painting is usually more effective than an exact picture, but the most effective method is always the one you enjoy most and feels the most real to you.

After You Hang Your Vision Board:

Look at it daily with joy and faith - these are the things you want most and these are the things you will have.  Remain detached from your desires.  That is, have faith that you will achieve these desires or something better - never ever worry about not achieving any of your desires!  Worrying means you don't believe you will achieve them which means you probably won't achieve them (see "Clearing Negative Beliefs" blog).  "Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right" - Henry Ford.  Remember to enjoy your Vision Board... if you don't enjoy it then you're not doing it right, so change it until you do enjoy it!  For other related manifesting techniques to incorporate with the Vision Board, see "Visualization," "Affirmations," and others.
