How to Use "The Secret" In A Christian Way

Do you want to know how to use the tools of "The Secret" the Christian way - in a way that allows you to maintain your Christian religious beliefs and achieve your desires? It's totally possible and rather simple, (I find Joel Osteen's best selling book, "Your Best Life Now" to be an excellent inspiration and a helpful tool for both Christians and spiritual (non-religious) believers - Joel Osteen is a senior pastor at a growing congregation in Houston, Texas, and has a show on national and international television networks).
Notice how similar Osteen's concepts are to "The Secret's" and how it doesn't matter what religion you are, you can use these tools in your own way to create the life you desire! Here is a brief paraphrasing of the seven steps that Osteen outlines in his book, "Your Best Life Now:"
1. Enlarge Your Vision, Raise your level of expectancy, Realize that God has more in store for you, Break through past barriers, Know that you have the favor of God on your side
2. Develop a healthy self-image, Decide what you think about yourself (make it good!), Understand your own value (both intrinsic and not), Become what you believe about yourself, Develop a prosperous mind-set, Be happy right now with who you are
3. Discover the power of your thoughts and words, Choose the right thoughts, Reprogram your mental computer, The power is in your own words, Speak life-changing words, Speak your own blessing
4. Let go of the past, Let go of emotional wounds, Don't let yourself become bitter, Allow God to bring justice into your life, Defeat your disappointments
5. Find strength through adversity, Pick yourself up mentally, Trust God's timing, The purpose of trials, Trust God even when life doesn't make sense
6. Live to give, The joy of giving, Showing God's kindness and mercy, Keep your compassionate heart open, The seed must lead, Sowing and growing
7. Choose to be happy, happiness is a choice, Be a person of excellence and integrity, Live with enthusiasm

How are the 2 similiar?...
How is this similiar to the concepts of "The Secret"?
#1 Relates to dreaming as big as you want even if you don't know how you'll achieve it, and just expect that if you focus on the goal, the abundant universe (God) will align itself for you.
#2 Relates to thinking good things about yourself so you'll get more good things about yourself, knowing that you have value, and be happy now, not after your situation turns around, because it won't until you change your thoughts first.
#3 Relates to Positive Affirmations and reprogramming your subconscious mind with new positive beliefs that support your conscious desires.
#4 Relates to letting go of the past, the present, and negative thoughts and emotions, and focusing on achieving your goals in the positive.
#5 Relates to keeping the belief and the faith in the Law of Attraction and knowing that it sometimes works in ways you didn't expect.
#6 Relates to serving others and "if you build it and it's useful, they will come" - do whatever you enjoy and believe is useful to others, and you will be rewarded both financially and emotionally/spiritually.
#7 Relates to being happy now, choosing to be happy, and choosing to do things you enjoy, and intending your desires from a positive emotional state of mind.
Joel Osteen
I had posted on this thread http://goodkarma.org/node/130 regarding the incompatibility of The Secret and Jesus Christ.
Osteen doesn't preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and his book is devoid of the same thing. It is sad, but true. Just the very fact that one can use his book to implement the laws of attraction is very telling. Would one be able to use the Bible for the same purpose?
In Christian circles, Osteen's teachings are considered "cotton-candy". Basically he teaches the same thing as The Secret - that we can all be happy by thinking happy thoughts and applying ourselves (action, according to James Arthur Ray).
Osteen has good intentions, but no dice. You can't extract even a glimpse of the gospel of Jesus Christ from his book. It is becoming more and more apparent that Jesus is the dividing line between real Christians and those who believe in "God". There is a scripture in 1st John 4 that says: "Hereby you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God." ("Jesus Christ is come in the flesh" means "God-Incarnate" because Jesus is God, the 2nd person of the Godhead)
So if you choose to use The Secret and Joel Osteen's book together, yes, they are very similar and compatible. Only please don't confuse it with Christianity because they are very different. unfortunately for Mr. Osteen.
These Books are Science Fact!
These Books are science fact and of God! I have used these facts for years and they work.
Your take on Joel Osteen's
Your take on Joel Osteen's message is not accurate. Joel Osteen preaches to the masses but if you really want the in depth teaching there are many, many classes available at the church or through his website that teach nothing but beleif in Jesus as the Son of God -Our Deliverer - The Only Way etc. etc. You can live for years as a "Bible believing Christian" but, the bottom line is that many of us have lived defeated for years because we didn't understand the simple application of faith in our daily lives. I'm a "born again" Christian who had many, many obstacles to overcome - years of hurt. I've forgiven horrendous acts upon my life and moved on to love those people that harmed me. But somehow I just couldn't seem to live victorious is ALL sectors of my life. I listened to "The Secret" and immediately I understood better the way to have faith in God. You can tell someone all day long - just believe - just believe but what about the voices that tell them your situation is this and it'll always be this. You have to know how to apply all that Word of God you received over the years. I critiqued The Secret and weeded out everything that left out Jesus being the only way. When I listen to Joel Osteen I feel good about myself and that it is possible to overcome remaining areas of doubts from my past.

Good Karma in keeping the Faith throughout "The Secret"
Upon completion of reading "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrnes, I felt overpowered in that I was the one in control of my life. However, being a faithful believer in God and Jesus Christ, I realized (the hard way), that one is not in as much as control as one may think. Sure, you may pick the books you choose to read, but in the long run, you will see as a beliver in God, it is he who is in control of our lives. Taking that thought into all we do will help us on our life's journey here on Earth. It will keep us from getting lost on the path to everlasting life. That is the place we, as believers, will be once we complete our life's work on Earth. When we truly realize what our purpose is here (to follow in the steps of Jesus according to the Father), is when we will be able to free ourselves of the worries and hardships life brings our way. Trust in the Lord and all will be well! xxoo P.S. That is "the secret" I wish to share with all of you.. Be well!~
The Secret
When I read the book The Secret, I was at first skeptical because I wasn't seeing a "spiritual" angle. But as I read on, watched the dvd and saw other articles and videos regarding The Secret, I felt positive about it. It's also a good thing that I read Joel Osteen's "Your Best Life Now" and Rick Wareen's "The Purpose Driven Life" before Rhonda Byrnes' "The Secret". I even thought The Secret was an overrated book! But as I understood it, it's not so bad at all. It's actually very basic. I'm already in my 30's and I've heard about the power of the mind since before I hit puberty. Seriously! For me, it's not really a "secret" per se. The book for me is an agressive "awareness" campaign that tells us to have a more positive outlook in life. I couldn't agree more that negative thoughts really attract negative outcomes. I've been in the health industry for the past five years and we tell our patients to be stress-free and have a positive outlook in life, in addition to the health products and healhty nutrition we recommend them to take. That cancer patient in the dvd didn't surprise me at all! It has always happened. For me, The Secret also provides awareness on this health concern. It is true! Stress is negative. Stress and negative emotions such as anger, especially grudges, do cause cancer! I'm happy that this book came out. It gives so much awareness to what's already there! It has always been in front of us but we never gave it attention and this book makes us realize that. Cheers, Rhonda Byrnes.
How to Use the Secret in a Christian Way
I'm not sure the issue is how to use the "The Secret" in a Christian way. I think the point is that to be a Christian is to inherently KNOW "The Secret." (Colossians 1:26-28)
We agree that there is absolutely nothing new about "The Secret." Ms. Bryne has taken Biblical precepts, 'filtered them" for non-offensiveness and then packaged it all into this phenomenon called "The Secret."
With the gentle dismissal of Jesus Christ and the marginalizing of the Bible, it is evident that the one who truly doesn't know the "Secret" is Ms. Bryne herself, since she appears to be oblivious to the fact that it all comes from God -- God being God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
On the positive side, I DO give her credit for getting people to give re-consideration to what they are thinking. But again, nothing new here, the Bible gives very clear instructions about what to do with our thoughts. No need for the "twisted Scriptures" of "The Secret."
Furthermore, what this all indicates is that people are hungry for purpose and meaning in life. There obviously is a void somewhere for apparently they're not getting fed in their churches. "The Secret" should be considered a call to action within the church community to REALLY spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and not just hit people over the head with religion, rhetoric and ceremony.
As to Ms. Bryne, "The Secret" and Christianity, it is amazing to me that she has disappeared into the "land down under," no doubt choosing to avoid the controversy and concerns that have been stirred up because she DID minimalize Christianity in her book. Hopefully, she is taking this time to regroup and get plugged into The Bible and all the wonderful instructions and blueprint for living that it has to offer.
For it is only when she openly acknowledges and embraces the incredible gift that the Bible is, that I will consider purchasing any additional followup "Secret" books and/or DVDs. As the expression goes, "the proof is in the pudding."
Sincerely,
Paula Quick
A Biblical Worldview response to The Secret
Whether or not you consider yourself a Christian, many have found our new book helpful in understanding how a Biblical worldview compares to Rhonda Byrne's work. Check out "Shining The Light On The Secret" at http://www.ShiningTheLightOnTheSecret.com. Available in paperback or e-book.
are you kidding me?
Are you kidding me? A Biblical worldview?!?!?!? That's about the most contradictive thing I've ever heard....but seriously.... thanks for the laugh.... Read the Bible... it's the BEST book you'll ever read!
I think Joel Olsteen is
I think Joel Olsteen is living proof of the secret. The Secret states that "thoughts become things" and his thoughts on the positive have brought him an incredible amount of success. I truly believe he is living his "passion" and he seems so natural and genuine at giving people hope. The energy at Lakewood church must be incredible. I would love to be a visitor there one day!
Amen
Amen
God gives people hope....not
God gives people hope....not man...and "thoughts become THINGS"--things are materialistic, they are of the world, not of God.
Why don't we look at his success..... he's turned the word of God into a business venture...what do you suppose he drives? And his clothes and jewelry.....I'm sure that God isn't anymore impressed with him because he wears expensive clothing and "things....wordly things," than he is with me, (and I don't need things of the world...nor do I desire them)...oh yeah.... and watch the congregation at that church...do they have a dress code??? A bum off the street would probably be shunned for trying to set foot in that church, since it's being recorded on television!
Even though Joel is very well known for "what he does," look at all the things that he is trying to justify...his church....a business generating revenue....period! Just because people (sometimes even whole congregations) go to church, and "live good lives" that doesn't mean that they are Christian. You can't justify you actions because you want something, and you're making it seem as if this is what God wants for you....you need to follow God's word in it's entirety (not pulling a verse out to make it sound like what you want to hear). I know that we are all human, and we all sin...but PLEASE.....don't justify your actions....live the word.....especially if you're preaching to that many people, he needs to lead by example... I'm tired of writing about this for now, it's seriously exhausting me thinking about how many people claim to be Christian and aren't, then you have the people who are really trying to be Christian, but are being "lead astray by the wlof, who justifies and deceives," and then there are a select few (the minority of the population) who really are Christian... and they are living God's world (what he wants, and following His word) and not living "in the world."
WOW...............ok...... well....I've posted a long coment below.... so if you feel like reading more..... go for it, but this is seriously exhausting me...
God Bless... (I posted the really long one....the one about why you can't follow this principle and BE Christian--I just forgot to post my name to it)

I am Interested in learning more, Why do so many people hate hate joel?
SERIOUSLY! Using "The Secret" in a Christian Way...NOT POSSIBLE!
Read your Bibles people!!! This is absurd! Do you want to know the true "SECRET OF LIFE?" It's simple....it's printed in the oldest history book in the world!!! And it's free!!! No catches... it's called the BIBLE....you know, "THE WORD OF GOD..." If you read it and apply it, you'll realize that you will have all and more than could ever be accomplished by following this "law of attraction" or any other ridiculous "scheme" out there. And seriously... how can truly being a Christian and using this "law of attraction" possibly work hand in hand??? The answer....THEY CAN'T!!!!!!! If you believe that God is your creator, and that Jesus died for your sins, and you're following the Lord's word (the Bible...for anyone not familiar with the book), you would discover the REAL SECRET OF LIFE: "IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU!!!" Yes... I did just say that...."NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS ABOUT YOU!!! IT'S ALL ABOUT GOD! IT'S NOT A SELFISH WAY OF THINKING....HMMM.....LET ME THINK ABOUT WHAT I WANT....AND IT WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN.....IT'S TOTALLY ABOUT WHAT GOD WANTS! LIFE IN THIS WORLD...AND THE THINGS IN IT, ARE NOT WHAT GOD INTENDS FOR US...unfortunately, we are human, and he gave us the ability to make our own choices... and really, there are only two choices to choose from....1) GOD.....understanding that this life here on earth is to test our faith in Him, humble us and show him that we understand "IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM...GOD...NOT US!" or 2) making the choice to choose our desires and focus solely on achieving what we want (not what God wants), and then suffering for it for eternity... by the way...did I mention that if you choose choice number 1, then you are PROMISED not only ETERNAL LIFE with HIM (GOD)--IN HIS KINGDOM, HEAVEN--but He also PROMISES us much more than we are even capable of imagining...we will be RICH when it count's... I don't know about you, but I think think that life in this world is too short to worry about "worldly" things...I would much rather spend my time here on earth working for the "BIG PICTURE".... Hmmmm...... That's ironic...... in the end, aren't we all trying to achieve the "BIG PICTURE????" The "BIG PICTURE" is being able to spend the rest of eternity with GOD in HIS HOLY KINGDOM.... my suggestion is that you stop trying to kid yourself, and stop justifying your desires for worldly things...it's displeasing to God....instead, pray with a sincere heart and ask for his forgiveness for being so selfish, let him know that you know that this life is not about you, it's about Him, and start over....When you're looking for the "SECRET of LIFE," pick up your Bible...and if you don't have one, and you can't borrow one...ask for one at a CHRISTIAN CHURCH....or, you can go to the library, and get it there...just remember though...if you do go to the library, wear your blindfold when you go by the "self" fulfillment books--so you don't run into this predicament all over again! I will pray that anyone reading this, and anyone seeking something better in their lives, will find the one and only way to truly having a fulfilling life....following God's word, and ultimately realizing that "IT'S ABOUT WHAT GOD WANTS...NOT YOU!"
ps...If you need a quick "pick me up" and you're feeling like you need more to life "right now," and you're not making the time to sit down and read the Bible in it's entirety, then, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Bible, the Book of Proverbs (a chapter in the Bible), has a lot of uplifting advice ("quotes" or quick to do now directions to follow).
PLEASE....I'D LOVE TO HEAR FEEDBACK....
Mark 11 is the enire BOOK of "the Secret" , A simple verse
22 And Jesus answered saying to them, “Have faith in God. 23 “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. 24 “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. 25 “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. 26 [“But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.”]
The Verse says it all.. I thought with all this Secret Mumbo Jumbo and the Ester hicks Abraham stuff.. That this might be the works of satan..

The Secret and Christianity
I am no expert on The Secret. I'm not an expert on Christian theology either. But I have a few thoughts about the two regarding their compatibility. Let's agree on this: everybody wants to be successful in this life. Everybody wants to be happy. Down deep, everybody wishes they had enough money, enough recognition, enough time, enough freedom, enough pleasure, enough love, enough energy, enough fame, and enough of every resource. It is part of our human nature to want enough of these. How much is "enough" is relative to our experiences, personal culture, environment, and the variables particular to our lives and of our culture. So, these desires are normal for every human.
Christian theology says that something happens to the man who believes in Jesus Christ as Lord of one's life. His desires change. Now, with all the stories we hear of church people doing absolutely atrocious acts, that is very hard to believe, I know. In fact, if you're a skeptic of this claim (the claim that making Jesus Christ your Lord will radically change you and therefore your desires), nothing will convince you that it is true except testimony of those redeemed, reading The Bible, listening to God's Word, and your own prayers. Ultimately, however, you will have to choose Jesus Christ for yourself to really know that it is true. When you become a disciple of Jesus Christ you will be different than you were as a typical human. What separates a Christian from the typical human?
The Secret says that something happens to the man who adopts its principles as the Lord of their lives too. Again, they claim that you be different than a typical human being. Again, you might be skeptical of this claim but be more convinced by reading the book, watching the DVDs, listening to adherents, etc. Ultimately, to know for sure, you'll have to implement these principles into your life with your whole heart, mind, and soul to really know for sure.
Am I right so far? I'm making good sense, ok? You're feeling me. Good.
I'm not an expert on either, but I can draw a comparison that should be considered. I won't take either out of context just to be fair. First, Christianity's Jesus Christ said this: "If any man will come after me, he must deny himself, pick up his cross daily, and follow me. The man who saves his soul-life will lose it, but the man who loses his soul-life for my sake, this one will save it." The question that we should all want answered is this: can we adopt the principles of The Secret and still do what Jesus said one must do to follow him? Christianity is a call to severe obedience to God through Jesus Christ. Here is another command given to Christians by Jesus Christ: "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth, therefore, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them into the name of The Father, The Son, and of The Holy Spirit and teaching them to do all that I have taught. And, remember, I will be with you every day until the consummation of the age." Can we adopt the principles of The Secret and still obey Jesus Christ's command?
