I'm in charge of my decisions - so why are they always the wrong ones?

This is my first blog.  I have finally figured out that I am my own worst enemy!  Over the last few years I have been offered numerous opportunities - and for some reason I always seem to pick the absolute wrong ones!  In one day I was offered a job at an insurance company, a job as a merchandise manager at a retail store and a second interview at a very successful company offering a great pay.  Which one do I choose?  Retail! The pay sucks!  The hours suck!  And the company has zero loyalty for their employees!  What was I thinking???? I had the power in my hands and I threw it away!  So...I'm guessing I am intentionally doing this to myself and I'm sure I need to find some good karma in myself and make some intelligent and profitable decisions. The problem is - I don't seem to recognize them at the time!  If there is a doorway and a wall I can guarantee you I will walk into the wall!

So....anyone have any suggestions about what I do to turn this all around?  I have years of experience in management, lots of education behind me, and aside from the problem I have with bad job decisions, I am usually a very intelligent person.  It's time I take control but I'm not sure that I trust ME to do it!  Sure I am a nice person and people actually like working with and for me but what can I do to make my life what I want it to be?  I'm not getting any younger and though they tell me we get wisdom with age, mine seems to have lost it's way!

Tell me the secret please! I'm ready to learn how to make the right decisions!

Sorry to ruffle feather, but

Sorry to ruffle feather, but stop dwelling on the past and move on. Past opprotunities are just that...And quit the "why me" thing too. Put your energy gardening or cooking.

You stated the answer to

You stated the answer to your problem in your own blog. You need to trust yourself, once you trust yourself you will then make the right decisions for yourself. If you don't trust yourself then you will continue to make the wrong decisions for yourself.

decisions

Next time you are faced with an important decision, try to list all the pro's and con's of each.  Actually take the time out to list all the reasons you would like and dislike and the benefits of both.  By writing it down you should be able to recognize what is better for you, just not what seems most appealing at the time.  You can even just look back at the list a couple days later when you have a real clear head and time to think about it.  This may all help.  Also try not to dwell on your past.  They may not have been the best decisions, but who's to say that they are wrong.

Suggestion & options

Try the I-Ching for help about which job to take. The I-Ching work book by R. L. Wing(Winger) would give you a quick start and how to ask questions. There are many methods and I use the coin method. The question is important and balance/center yourself before consulting I-Ching. Check different resources on the web: Ebay, Amazon, Albris, & ect. . . ; for the best price. If you want to see the book first, then you can probably find some of it on line or see the actual book at a local library. If not at a local library, then try local book stores.

Options:

If the I-Ching works for you, then you will get more confident about your decision making.

Build yourself up. Treat yourself as you would treat your best friend.

Tony Robbins lessons have taught me to ask myself better questions. I would recommend the same to you. For example, not so good question, "Why do I always", better question "How can I turn this around and enjoy the process".

Advanced: Check on WOFS.com; there are different topics available. Look at section on column (left side of page); click on one titled Feng Shui almanac. For the month There are different days with their hours marked as either Red, black, or white. If you keep track of when something good or not so good happens that sets a tone for the day, just observe; when it happened; if this is marked in black, then you know that this was a not so good cycle. I grew up on FL beaches and one of the most important life lessons that I learned about surfing is catching a wave. Apply this to your life, if the water is flat you can do all the right things and nothing is happening; it's not your fault, just have to do something else until the conditions are right. If this almanac works for you, then I suggest planning your exercise, and if you meditate or practice chi gong; try focusing on the best hours for your activities.

I wish you the best and hope this helps you. Take Care.

Secret to Making the right Decisions

This is what I have found to work for me and many others. Karma has nothing to do with it, but your vision and belief system have everything to do with it.

1. What do you want from a job? List it out - define it - what do you love- what are you good at?

2. You say you are your own worst enemy and guess what your mind obeys that belief.

3. How can you change the belief to something that works for you, like I am competent in my decisions, I am wise, I am Lucky, I am intelligent.

4. If what we focus on expands then keep your thoughts on what you are greatful for those thoughts expand. Thoughts in the negative format will also expand. Watch you self talk.

5. Reprogram your subconcious mind - Take a look at www.innertalk.com
wonderful programming tapes.

Building Specific Goals

I can relate. I too seem to have had a pattern of bad choices. I found that most of them were based on a too general way of thinking and not looking deep inside myself to see specifically what it was I really wanted. Being specific instead of general in your goals help tremendously. Like DeDe outlined. Saying I want to win the $6 million lotto jackpot within six months and planning strategy to achieve that is better than just saying I want to win the lotto. That might not be the best example, but I hope it conveys the point. Whose or what guideline are you using for your measurement of success or failure? If its your own, reassess what it is you really want, what it will take for you to get it and a realistic time frame for achieving it. Its surprising how much our thinking and perceptions can affect our outcomes.
