Don't Rely On Your Thoughts For Everything - Take Action Too!

BlueButterfly's picture

James Arthur Ray, from "The Secret" said on the Oprah show, if you sit around and visualize, they'll come and take your furniture!  While John Demartini (from "The Secret" and Larry King Live) said, if you're really ill, start medical treatment while you explore alternatives, like thinking yourself well.

What they mean, is yes, the Law of Attraction does work and our thoughts do create our reality, but the rest of the world is going to keep moving forward whether you stop to create your reality or not.  You are still working on other people's time tables - the people you pay your mortgage to, your own body's cells that need healing, your husband who wants a divorce, your pet that needs to see the vet, etc.  So sometimes you need to take significant actions in the world, while you pursue creating your own reality on the side.  read more »

What is "The Secret" All About?

BlueButterfly's picture

"The Secret" is both a book and a movie, written and produced by Rhonda Byrnes.  Due to its rapid underground popularity and because of its significant message, it was featured on the Oprah show twice in February 2007 with 5 guests from "The Secret" and 2 returning guests.  The first guests on Oprah's show were Rhonda Byrnes, Jack Canfield, Lisa Nichols, James Arthur Ray, and Reverand Dr. Michael Beckwith, with James Arthur Ray and Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith returning for the follow up show.

The movie features some 20 or so experts on "The Secret" from authors, entrepreneurs, etc. to doctors, quantum physicists, etc., all who successfully use The Secret in their lives.  It also features famous historic quotes from Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, and more (see http://goodkarma.org/node/150) that seem to support The Secret.  read more »

Oprah and Her Trainer, Bob Greene, Say Oprah Hates Exercising - Goes Against Her Beliefs in "The Secret"

BlueButterfly's picture

Why does Oprah's famous personal trainer, Bob Greene, think you have to exercise even though you hate it?  He allows Oprah to hate working out and makes her do it anyway!  I'm not saying that if you hate working out you should not workout, I'm saying, like Tony Robbins says, if you have to do something, find a way to make it enjoyable while you're doing it!

The common way to do this is to determine a reward before hand to give yourself after you workout, so while you're working out you know you have a reward coming.  But there are other ways to learn to enjoy something you hate but have to do.  Instead of getting on the treadmill in your home or gym, go for a nice walk outside if you enjoy that more, or put a movie (that you like) on in your home while you exercise (just make sure you can be focused enough to still work hard).    read more »

"The Secret" - Law of Attraction - In the 2004 Presidential Election of Bush

HappyOne's picture

Does anyone remember the build-up to the 2004 Presidential Election, specifically, the 'predominant' attitude of "not Bush" or "anyone but Bush" and all the yelling and shouting about what Bush had done wrong?  Have you ever heard the expression, "any publicity is good publicity" or "there's no such thing as bad publicity?"  How about Lisa Nichols (from "The Secret" and the Oprah show) saying "the universe doesn't hear that you don't want it" (what you focus on expands, whether you want it or not).  Do you see where I'm going - what went wrong in the election and how to avoid a similar situation in the future?  By saying "not Bush" and putting all that energy into saying how bad Bush was, we not only failed to make an actual decision about what we did want, but we put most of our energy into "Bush."  We did exactly what "The Secret" and the Law of Attraction tell us not  read more »

Forgiveness - Often Misunderstood Concept, My Take On It

BlueButterfly's picture

After watching the Oprah shows on "The Secret" just recently, I realized that many people often misunderstand what it means to forgive.  Haven't you heard people say something like, "oh I've forgiven him already," but they say it with a tone that you suspect is still filled with anger, resentment, blame, etc.?  And then you just want to drop the subject all together because it doesn't seem like they're at peace with the subject and the conversation could take a very bad turn any second?  I know I've heard poeple talk like that.  read more »

A non-spiritual explanation for the Law of Attraction

Yoda's picture

I have been reading some negative reviews of "The Secret" recently, and I think one thing they have in common is a lack of full understanding about the law of attraction. I understand that many people do not consider themselves "spiritual" or believe in anything beyond what they can see (or "science" tells them exists). So talking about the vibrational energy of your thoughts and how they reorganize the rest of the universe might be a bit of a stretch for some people. However, what I don't understand is how people can deny that the law of attraction exists, even on a purely "rational," non-spiritual level.  read more »

Favorite Concepts (Expanded - Part 1) From the Movie, "The Secret"

Expanded Concepts - Part 1

The Secret:  The Law of Attraction - the universal principle that like attracts like, or in Oprah's words "what you think about expands"

Example from the movie "The Secret":  The gay man who is treated horribly at his office job, is booed off stage as a comedian, and is accosted by hateful strangers wherever he walks.  Then he changes nothing more than his thoughts - starts thinking well about himself and expecting others around him to treat him well also.  Within weeks, he was no longer hassled by strangers, all the mean people he worked with had either transfered or left him alone, and he became popular as a comedian on stage.
